Forge of Empires Hagia Sophia [Great Building Guide]

Welcome to our Forge of Empires Hagia Sophia Great Buildings Guide!

Hagia Sophia is a Late Antique place of worship in Istanbul built in 537 as the patriarchal cathedral of the imperial capital of Constantinople.

It was the largest Christian church of the eastern Roman Empire (the Byzantine Empire) and the Eastern Orthodox Church.

In 1453, after the Fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Empire, it was converted into a mosque.

Forge of Empires Hagia Sophia

In Forge of Empires, the Hagia Sophia is a 7×6 Early Middle Age great building.

Accordingly, the construction requires goods from the Early Middle Ages.

To enable the Forge Point production, the Hagia Sophia must be connected to a street.

As for all great buildings a single lane is sufficient.

With its 7×6 footprint, it is a huge building and often difficult to free the required space for it.

Benefits Of The Hagia Sophia

This great building has 2 major advantages:

  • Research: Produces Forge Points every 24 hours
  • Happiness: Provides Happiness

Produces Forge Points

At level 1 the Hagia Sophia produces 1 Forge Point every day.

Later at level 10 it produces 6 Forge Points per day.

Provides Happiness

Early in the game players lack happiness and need either decorations or culture buildings to make their population enthusiastic.

Lacking happiness will reduce all productions to 50% and slow down the development of the city significantly.

Making the population enthusiastic instead will give an additional boost of 20% which is very helpful.

At level 1 the Hagia Sophia provides 1,700 happiness.

Later at level 10 it even adds 6,400 happiness to the city.

On first sight, both bonuses seem to be very beneficial to new players.

Recommendation

For a new player starting in Forge of Empires the Hagia Sophia seems to be a great choice.

It provides Forge Points and happiness.

Both are needed urgently and have the potential to motivate new players to construct this great building.

The first problem of this Great Building is that many Forge Points are needed to level it up to at least level 10.

Using Forge Points for this great building means these cannot be used for research or other great buildings like Statue of Zeus or Cathedral of Aachen.

Therefore constructing the Hagia Sophia will slow down the development of a new player.

The other problem of the Hagia Sophia becomes obvious with advanced ages.

The low number of Forge Points received from this building is absolutely uninteresting in higher ages.

Late game great buildings, e g Castel del Monte, produce many more Forge Points every day and the second bonus is needed more.

The happiness gained from this building might help a bit in the beginning, but due to the excellent event buildings players soon have more happiness than needed.

Therefore my recommendation is not to build this great building.

There are enough better resources for Forge Points and happiness and the Hagia Sophia soon becomes a waste of space.

As destructing it will not return any forge points, all the investment would be lost.

Investing Forge Points in other great buildings accelerates development compared to a player having a Hagia Sophia.
