Welcome to our Forge of Empires Colosseum Great Buildings Guide!
The Colosseum is an oval amphitheater in the center of the city of Rome, Italy.
It is the largest ancient amphitheater ever built and is still the largest standing amphitheater in the world today, despite its age.
Construction began under the emperor Vespasian in 72.
The Colosseum could hold an estimated 50,000 to 80,000 spectators.
It was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles including animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, dramas based on Roman mythology, and briefly mock sea battles.
“Bread and circuses” (or bread and games; from Latin: panem et circenses) is a metonymic phrase referring to superficial appeasement.
How To Get The Colosseum In Forge of Empires
In Forge of Empires, the Colosseum is a 6×7 Iron Age great building.
Accordingly, the construction requires goods from the Iron Age.
To enable the medal production, the Colosseum must be connected to a street.
As for all great buildings a single lane is sufficient.
With its 6×7 footprint, it is a huge building, and often difficult to free the required space for it.
Benefits of The Colosseum In Forge of Empires
This great building has 2 major advantages:
- Medal production: Produces Medals every 24 hours
- Happiness: Provides Happiness
Medal Production: Produces Medals Every 24 Hours
Early in the game players urgently need medals to buy more expansions.
Between 10 (level1) and 35 (level 10) medals, every day allows players to buy expansions earlier which compensates a bit for the huge space filled by this great building.
Happiness: Provides Happiness
In the early game happiness always is something a player should pay attention to.
Lacking happiness will reduce all productions to 50% and slow down the development of the city significantly.
Making the population enthusiastic instead will give an additional boost of 20% which is very helpful.
At level 1 the Colosseum provides 1,100 happiness. Later at level 10 it even adds 4,000 happiness to the city.
Both bonuses seem to be very beneficial to new players.
Recommendation
For a new player starting in Forge of Empires, the Colosseum seems to be a great choice.
It provides medals and happiness.
Both are needed urgently and have the potential to motivate new players to construct this great building.
The problem of the Colosseum becomes obvious with advanced ages.
The low number of medals received from this building is absolutely uninteresting in higher ages.
Late game players have many more medals than they need, e g from The Arc.
The happiness gained from this building might help a bit in the beginning, but due to the excellent event buildings players soon have more happiness than needed.
Therefore my recommendation is not to build this great building.
There are enough better resources for medals and happiness and the Colosseum soon becomes a waste of space.
As destructing it will not return any forge points, all the investment will be lost.
Investing forge points in other great buildings accelerates development compared to a player having a Colosseum.
